Luigi Crotti founded San Remo in 1936. The company grew rapidly and was one of the first manufacturers to support and foster supermarket distribution. San Remo epitomises the culture and tradition of pasta making. The company has been able to entwine the traditional Italian pasta making knowledge with the most up-to-date technology. San Remo owns one of the most sophisticated and largest Durum wheat mill's in the Australian / south-east Asian region. This machine was specifically designed for Durum wheat. Their high quality assurance is guaranteed through their contracts with the best quality Durum wheat growers in the country. This ensures high standards of integrity and results in pasta of the highest quality. San Remo is committed to contribute to a better environment and apply environmental best practices for its business. In line with the Australian Packaging Covenant principles, they aim to: Since 2008/2009 San Remo has improved their waste management systems and, in that year alone, were able to reduce general waste in production by over 37% a month. That equated to a reduction of approximately 1440 tonnes of waste going to landfill in a calendar year. In the last financial year, 65.9% of their total packaging weight for products sold within Australia was made from recycled materials. While an additional 13.2% of the packaging for products sold within Australia was made from virgin recyclable materials.
